VA Disability Compensation

Have You Wondereed
If You Might Qualify?

VA Disability Compensation provides a monthly tax-free payment to veterans who developed physical or mental health symptoms while serving in the military and/or to Veterans whose service made an existing mental health condition worse.
You or a loved one may qualify for VA physical or mental health disability benefit for conditions (such as knee injury and related pain, PTSD or major depressive disorder) that developed before, during or after service.

VA Disability Compensation

Breaking News: PACT Act Passed!

The VA continues to expand and support Veterans and their families. Recently government passed the PACT Act which is a new law that expands VA health care and benefits for Veterans exposed to burn pits, agent orange, and other toxic substances.

The PACT Act adds to the list of health conditions that we assume (or “presume”) are caused by exposure to these substances. This law helps us provide generations of Veterans—and their survivors—with the care and benefits they’ve earned and deserve. So what are you waiting for?

To Get Started

To begin the claim process of filing a claim for disability compensation you will need a copy of your DD214 to verify your active duty military service. Active duty service can be completed while in the Guard or Reserves.

Where Do I Find My DD214?

A DD214, or Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, is an official document issued by the military upon a service member's separation or retirement.

Here's how veterans or military personnel can obtain their DD214

Request from the National Archives:

The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) is the official repository of military personnel records. Veterans can request their DD214 online through the National Archives' eVetRecs system or by mailing/faxing a Standard Form SF-180 to the National Personnel Records Center.

Contact the County Recorder or Veterans Service Office:

Some counties or states have a Veterans Service Office that assists veterans with accessing their military records. Additionally, the County Recorder's office may have a copy if the veteran filed their DD214 with the county.

Request from the VA:

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) may have a copy of the DD214 on file. Veterans can contact the nearest VA regional office or visit the eBenefits portal for assistance.

Check with the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) Office:

For recently separated service members, the Transition Assistance Program office where they completed their separation process may have a copy of the DD214.

Contact the Military Branch:

Each military branch maintains records, and veterans can contact the appropriate branch (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard) for assistance.
